Distance: 560 km Total to Date: 4456 km

Weather:The morning started off quite nice as we were ready to head out. There were just a few clouds and the temperature was in the low 70's.

After about an hour into the ride, we left the island and were hit with some very powerful crosswinds that lasted for about an hour. At that the sky was also starting to become more overcast.
As the winds died down, the skies grew more and more menacing. We decided to put on our rain gear.
It started to rain and the rain came down harder and harder. It got to a point that we had to stop a few times. We slowed down and put on the emergency flashers for safety. We made a few stops in Amherst, New Glasgow. We stopped for lunch at McDonald's as Jamie and Lori wanted to try out the new McLobster. They both enjoyed the meal and it turned out to be better than expected.

Even though he was totally drenched, Al went to Canadian Tire to get a wet suit. We persevered thru the rain and got to St John and decided to take a motel room for the night. Jamie was awesome in negotiating the price of the room (he got it down by $50). His dad would be proud. I was!
So, the day was a rain day. It worked out ok as we had to cover a lot of ground and the weather forced us to bear down and move forward.
We took Hwy 104 from Canso all the way to Amherst, NS and had to pay a $4 toll for part of the section. We continued to Moncton, NB and then on to Saint John. Most of the scenery along the route was typical country-side, so we didn't stop to take any photos. The rain came down in buckets at tiems, especially once we got to Saint John.
We talked with a biker couple from Boston and they helped us plan our route for tomorrow. We would like to follow Hwy 1 into the states, go t Bar Harbour and head to the White Mountains. Hopefully the rain lets up.
