Campsite: Austin Municipal Campground, Austin, Minnesota
Cost $22 per site; a small municipally run campground with very nice facilities; nice showers, green lots, hydro & water. Lady at front desk was very nice and informative and gave us some nice tour books in the exact area we intend to travel.

We started off a bit of Oshkosh and had to go back north to catch HWY 21 West. The weather was nice and I toyed not wearing a jacket to start the ride. We stopped about an hour later at a MacDonalds to check emails and update the blog.
Once we hit the road, we headed west. Along the way, we saw some very well kept farms.

As we proceeeded, the skies became more and more cloudy and the winds really picked up. The temperature also dropped substantially.
We travelled thru Wisconsin under dark clouds and very windy conditions. Many times we thought we would be hit with a shower, but luckily, that never happened.
as we moved to western Wisconsin, the terrain became more rugged and we hit some nice rolling hills thru the farmlands.

We stayed on highway 21 until Austin where we then connected onto Highway 90. At the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota, we rode into Omnialaska. This is where we saw the most spectacular scenery. A wide portion of the Mississippi River had many, many little islands and there was a huge water dam that went thru large, steep hills. Unfortunately, the winds were high and there was a massive bridge construction and road repair going over the Mississippi River. There were not spots to stop for photos. That pi$%^ed me off as the scenery was breathtaking.
The further we went west, the terrain turned into massive cornfields that went on as far as you could see. The winds got stronger, blowing strongly across the expansive corn fields. The winds were so strong and the air so cool, that my right arm started to freeze up.
It is amazing how many windfarms there are in Minnesota. Places like Dexter, Alpha and other places seemed to have hundreds of the wind turbines crossing the fields. Given how strong the wind was, I can really see why they are harnessing this power!

We finally stopped in Worthington, Minnesota for gas, and more importantly, heat. We grabbed some supper and then headed down the road to Austin, where we found the nice accommodations.
Tomorrow, we want to get up early and head to Rapid City, South Dakota, where we plan on staying a bit longer so we can ride the scenic trails of Custer and the Black Hills.
